Born on August 14, 1966 in Cleveland Ohio, Halle Maria Berry has now become one of the icons of the 21st century.
Her father is African American and her mother Caucasian which is what gives her that beautiful skin and look. She
has a sister named Heidi, and her parents used to work in medical establishments.
She first became noticed when she won the Miss Teen All-American Pageant in 1985 at the age of 17 years. In
1986 she was the first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant.She became a model after participating in this pageant,
which lead to a part in the TV series 'Living Dolls' in 1989. She showed her a real passion for acting, staying in
character even when the cameras were not on her. This led to a role in Jungle Fever (directed by Spike Lee), in
which she didn't wash for several days so as to identify further with her role. Later she appeared in The Flintstones
(1994), Losing Isaiah (1995), Bulworth (1998) and TV movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999).
Perhaps the most successful of her roles is that of Storm in X-Men (2000), a mutant who has the ability to control
weather. There are 2 more sequels of this film, one of which cam out in 2003, and the other which is due this year.
She is the first African-American actress to win an Oscar for Best Actress and is also the only official Bond Girl who
has won an Academy Award.
She found out that she had Type 1 Diabetes when she fell into a coma in 1989 whilst on the set of Living Dolls. She
doesn't let her diabetes stop her however and admits to one of her favourite foods being pecan ice-cream.
She has been ranked number 96 in Premiere's 2003 Annual Power List, named one of the 50 most beautiful people
in People Magazine 2003 and named number 7 in FHM's Top 100 Sexiest Women 2004.
She has been married and divorced twice, firstly to David Justice (1992 - 1997) and then to Eric Benét (2001 - 2005).
